Voltage and current change direction approximately 60 times per second. If the voltage and the current change directions at the same time in the same direction, the current is said to be unity. If the current lags the voltage, the pf is less than unity and some of the current will be effectively ’wasted’, i.e. it will not contribute to the work. The Equalizer with its capacitors and circuitry “re-align” the pf, resulting in positive power efficiency for the consumer.
Electrical motors in the home consume inductive power, which is a common cause leading to voltage and current misalignment. When switched on they draw "Apparent Power" (kVA) from the mains. kVA is comprised of "Active Power" (kW), the power actually being consumed, as well as "Reactive Power" (kVAr), the power feeding the electromagnetic circuit of the control gear.
Reactive Power (kVAr) doesn’t add benefit to the user, but does cost the consumer money. The less kVAr used the greater the savings, with no reduced consumption.
Real Power and Apparent Power are said to be at unity, a 1.0 pf, if they share the same plane. All electrical energy is going towards real work
The Equalizer is based on correcting Power Factor (PF). Using a combination of capacitors, resistors, inductors and integrated circuit boards, the Equalizer brings the voltage and current supplied into phase with each other. This results in a smooth, reliable, continuous “clean” flow of electricity, makes for efficient power consumption. The Equalizer corrects the “current lag” and eliminates any spikes within the electrical system.
